Coraje Buenos Aires Rediscovered After 50 Years

A long-lost gem of Argentina’s jazz history has finally re-emerged. Coraje Buenos Aires, a groundbreaking 1973 post-bop, avant-garde jazz album, has been unearthed after its master tapes were thought destroyed for decades.

Originally conceived as a follow-up to the iconic Bronca Buenos Aires (1971), this album took an even bolder stance against the atrocities committed by the military junta ruling Argentina at the time. Its powerful, politically-charged texts led to its inevitable censorship prior to release. For 50 years, the fate of Coraje Buenos Aires remained uncertain, until the recent discovery of its original tapes in the archive of the late Jorge López Ruiz (the album’s creator).

Now meticulously mastered by Pablo López Ruiz from these original tapes, Coraje Buenos Aires can finally be heard as it was intended. The release includes a foldout sheet featuring bilingual notes by José Tcherkaski and English translations of the album’s poignant texts, offering listeners an intimate window into its context and significance.

This rediscovery bridges a critical gap in Argentina’s jazz legacy and brings an exceptional piece of music history back to life.
